As part of the raising aspirations programme, a representative from Cambridge University graduate (Maria) once again visited The Friary School to talk to aspiring Year 12 students who are interested in information about Oxbridge universities.

Maria, who graduated from Cambridge University, now works as a Schools Liaison Officer at Sidney Sussex College Cambridge, and this enabled her to be the perfect support to offer invaluable first-hand advice and guidance to support our students, based upon her personal experiences.

Students explored the application process and what life is really like for students at the most prestigious universities throughout the UK. Students learnt how to best prepare for interviews, make their personal statements stand out, and how to ensure that they get the most out of university studies and what they should be prioritising in their studies to increase their chances of securing an offer.

Faye Bullock, Careers & Aspirations Mentor, said: “The session was highly informative and inspiring and gave students insight, encouragement and belief that students at this school can apply and achieve great things. Students participated by asking lots of questions and felt the information session had motivated them to consider applying when making their university choices.”
