KS4 Outcomes

Our Key Stage Four outcomes are reported annually on the DfE Performance Tables and in recent years we have achieved outstanding exam results.

The key measurement for school is Progress and this determines how far the students have improved since sitting their Year 6 SATS exams.

This judgement is fairer than straight-forward attainment – where selective schools invariably school highest – but there are limitations with it such as the proportion of Disadvantaged children at the school and students joining the school late having been educated elsewhere.

Our most recent KS4 Outcomes came in Summer 2025 and were a source of huge pride as they continued our on-going upward trajectory. We are awaiting these to be validated by the Department for Education later in the Autumn Term.

Progress

These Progress 8 scores give an indication of how students did in the Best 8 subjects in Summer 2024 in relation to how well they performed in their Year 6 SATS:

Measurement School National
Overall + 0.86 + 0.01
English + 0.78 0.00
Maths + 0.36 0.00
E-Bacc / Pot 2 + 0.62 0.00
Open / Pot 3 + 1.51 0.00
Science +0.33 – 0.01
Modern Foreign Languages +0.35 0.00
Humanities +1.06 0.00

This level of progress is excellent against national benchmarks, repeatedly tops the KS4 Performance Tables for Staffordshire, and continues the school’s trend of superb exam results stretching back before the COVID pandemic.

Attainment

These scores show what grades the students achieved (with a 7 matching an old ‘A’ / a 4 matching an old ‘C’) in Summer 2024:

Measurement School National
9-7 in English & Maths 20% 12%
9-5 in English & Maths 62% 46%
9-4 in English & Maths 82% 65%

E-Baccalaureate

The Department for Education places a great emphasis on students undertaking a suite of strong academic subjects which they label the E-Baccalaureate (or EBacc).

Their definitions is made up of GCSEs in English, Maths, Science, a Humanities subject (with us History or Geography) and a Foreign Language (with us French):

Measurement School National
Entry to EBacc 65% 40%
9-5 in EBacc 34% 18%
9-4 in EBacc 60% 25%

This high proportion of students entered for and succeeding in the highly academic E-Bacc pathway in Summer 2024 is significantly above national averages and reflects the breadth and challenge of our curriculum.
