Leavers’ assembly and Lichfield City of Sanctuary presentation
On Thursday, we welcomed the Year 13s back into school for their Leavers’ Assembly. There was lots of reminiscing, a fair bit of embarrassment, a host of awards both serious and light-hearted, the first-ever awarding of a reading scholarship worth £275 (the recipient of which was Calum Finch) and of course some heartfelt messaging from staff.
We also invited representatives from Lichfield City of Sanctuary so the outgoing Senior 7 could handover the proceeds from the last twelve months of fundraising. The students have run numerous events including sweet sales, quizzes and the now annual Sixth Form charity football match and an inaugural Sixth Form show, raising a grand total of £2341.78. As a school we were presented with a series of books for the library from Lichfield City of Sanctuary as a show of thanks for our support.
That evening we held our Year 13 leavers’ meal at The George Hotel in Lichfield. This is the fourth year we have run the event in this way, and it really is the most wonderful way to say final goodbyes to students. The mix of a sit-down meal and speeches, combined with the opportunity to mingle and share a celebratory drink with the students is an adult and befitting way to mark the end of their time at school and the beginning of a new era. As always, the students looked fantastic and conducted themselves brilliantly. Head Boy (Matt Allen) and Head Girl (Amelia Long) each gave superb speeches, that hit just the right spot in terms of nostalgia, laughter, gratitude and the imparting of wisdom.
