This week saw the final debates of the academic year, with Year 7 teams debating the notion: ‘Climate refugees should be accepted into the UK as a priority.’ The debate formed part of our Refugee focus week.

The debates were judged by Mrs Cresswell, our school librarian, with the guest judge being school governor Mr Sugden.

The competition was very close with only one point between second, third and fourth place.

Here are the results:

1st Place: Darwin with 76 points (Max H, Joshua M, Poppy W, Holly B)
2nd Place: Johnson with 61 points (Eva G, Lola B, Owain P, Sophie W)
3rd Place: Seward with 60 points (Ezra B, Catherine I, Siaane S)
4th Place: Garrick with 59 points (Ella R, Merryn K, Emilia W)

Emilia W (Garrick) and Poppy W (Darwin) were awarded Most Valuable Debaters.

School Librarian and Debate judge, Mrs Cresswell, said, “Well done to all the students who took part in the debates. Some of the students showed a real flair for debating. The Year 7s should be proud of themselves; their confidence and ability to counter-argue was impressive.”
