This year as part of our Raising Aspirations Programme, a group of energetic Year 8 students have taken part in a five-week interactive skills workshop aimed at enhancing their employability awareness and personal development.

This is our 6th group who have benefitted from this programme delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and led by Schools Advisor Jane Young. Jane guided students through a variety of activities designed to help them realise their own strengths, build confidence, and better understand the expectations and skills needed for the world of work.

Over the five-week programme, students engaged in a varied assortment of practical team-building exercises and explored important topics including:

* Getting to know each other & understanding why people work
* Job terminology and how we talk about work
* Identifying personal skills and understanding the importance of behaviours
* Building wellbeing and confidence
* Active listening and the importance of following rules
* Developing effective team working skills

Faye Bullock, Careers Coordinator, said: “The workshops provided students with an encouraging environment to reflect on their goals during the session, build interpersonal skills and grow in self-awareness. These are key foundations for their future development and planting the seed now to grow their awareness of employability skills will only strengthen knowledge and skills to build on in the future.”
