A group of Friary students have received glowing feedback from a panel of engineers.
The school’s EDT Gold Programme team got feedback on a project they’ll present at an awards ceremony next month.
The EDT programme is part of the King Charles Industrial Cadet scheme, which has been assisting schools around the UK since 1984. The programme encourages students to collaborate with engineering companies, producing prototypes to solve real-life challenges in actual workplaces.
This year’s team consists of Isabelle W, Bosco C, Henry B, Katie S, Jack B and Nicola W, working with school staff in the form of Mrs Stubbs and Mr Hutton. The Friary is very pleased to be working again with Paul J. Arthur, of EATONs Electrical Supplies in Aldridge, as our school’s industry partner.
Initial feedback commended the team’s “engaging” report and presentation, their communication skills, teamwork, innovative ideas and commitment to good health and safety practices.
The team now proceeds to the Celebration Award Day, on 23rd June, where they will deliver a Dragon’s Den-style pitch, set up a stall and judge other schools’ projects before the final awards ceremony.
Last year’s Friary team earned a Gold Award and came 2nd overall out of over 30 teams in the West Midlands.
In addition to the students’ awards, our school lead, Mrs Stubbs, was awarded ‘Teacher of the Year’. Mrs Stubbs was singled her out for “her passion and commitment to her students and industrial cadets.”
