This week again saw students from across the range of Year Groups recognised by their respective Heads of House.

Audrey (Y11), Rory (Y8), Amelia (Y9) and Oliver (Y10) were treated to a hot chocolate on what was, by coincidence, also a scheduled non-uniform day.

Audrey was commended for “being the kind of student every teacher hopes for” in their class. She “quietly leads by example,” working “extremely hard” and showing a “commitment to success.” It is hard to disagree with Mr Britton, Darwin’s Head of House, that Audrey seems “destined for great things.”

Rory, the youngest nominee, was also recognised as an excellent role model for others. He “gets involved in all school life has to offer,” and in so doing is always “polite, helpful and smiling,” deservedly earning Miss Wright’s nomination from Johnson House.

Amelia was recognised for her commitment to Garrick House. Not only is she one of the leading students for Achievement Points – of which Amelia has earned nearly 1,300 – she took a “lead role” in preparing for Garrick House Week. All this has rightly earned Miss Golder’s commendation as Amelia’s Head of House.

Oliver has had a phenomenal week. His band, Emergence, won Staffordshire’s Battle of the Bands Final last Sunday night, having qualified by winning the school’s Battle of the Bands back in February. He also took the lead on his form assembly and did “a great job” with this. (In nominating him, Mr Sleigh, Seward’s Head of House, clearly doesn’t hold a grudge that, in cricket, Oliver’s left-arm seam bowling has dismissed him in the nets on multiple occasions.) Mr Sleigh wanted to ensure that Oliver’s “hard work in and out of school” doesn’t go unnoticed.

Headteacher Mr Drury said: “It was a pleasure to meet four very hard working and fantastically committed young people who clearly throw themselves enthusiastically into all aspects of school life.”
