A rock band made up of Friary students emerged triumphant at Staffordshire Battle of the Bands on Sunday night.
Emergence, who triumphed at the school’s Battle of the Bands last month to quality for the County Final, are made up of members Oliver Purkis, Logan Smith, Isaac Can, Francis Shaw and Harry Elson.
They won the Legends of Rock category, for Year 10 and above, at the Rugeley Rose Theatre.
The competition, organised by Staffordshire Music Service (Entrust), was open to over 450 schools across the county. The Final was judged by professional musician Al Brown, of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
Mr Hood and Mr Bennett, of Friary’s Music Department, were there in person to support the students and got to witness Emergence’s triumph first-hand.
Mr Hood said: “We’re really proud of our musicians. We knew they would put on a great show but to get the acknowledgement of the judge, a professional musician, as the best in Staffordshire is obviously the icing on the cake.”
