Our Year 9 Pathways Evening was very well attended, giving parents the opportunity to explore the subjects and choices open to their children. Students have already had the process mapped out to them in school, including ongoing Q&A sessions with teachers.

The evening saw a keynote presentation from Mr Barnett-Richards (Deputy Headteacher), who highlighted the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum for all, with the key considerations of course type, examination style and suitability for each and every child. Following this, parents got to meet our subject specialists to ask the questions that they felt would help their children make their decision.

Mr Barnett-Richards (Deputy Headteacher) said, “Pathways are a fundamental step to ensuring that all students that attend the Friary are able to thrive into the next step of their education. Many courses are available to our students, none of which limit them in their future endeavours, but it is important to have access to and provide both students and parents with the necessary information to make the correct informed decisions”.

Mark Drury, Headteacher, added: “The school has a strong record of helping students be successful, from their starting points in school and compared to their peers nationally. The school also has a well-established Pathways process. Those two things go together – getting students on the right routes so that by the end of Year 11 they are assured of getting a range of good, useful qualifications.”

“Staff in school have been planning this for a long time. Using knowledge of students from the last two-and-a-half years, school has a curriculum offer we are proud of. Equally, tonight is really important for our crucial partnership with parents and families.”
