In front of a packed theatre, students interpreted music from the 1970s in our annual Battle of the Bands.
This year’s judging panel saw the Mayor of Lichfield, as well as representatives from Lichfield Arts, with the difficult task of choosing winning acts in various categories.
In truth, all student bands were worthy of praise and the real winners were those in the audience, who enjoyed a tremendous evening’s entertainment from start to finish.
The show opened with the staff band warming up the crowd with two Fleetwood Mac classics, before an array of student bands took us through the decade with hits from artists including Stevie Wonder, Aerosmith, Elton John and The Knack.
A huge thanks to our student sound engineers – led by Deputy Head Boy Joshua Douglas-Boisson, when he wasn’t on stage himself – and of course our compere Rosie Walker.
We are very grateful to Lichfield Arts, who donated a guitar to the school, and South Staffordshire College, who kindly offered various opportunities as prizes for the winning groups.
As always, our wonderful PTFA where busy behind the scenes and provided interval refreshments.
Mr Hood, Head of Music, said: “This event is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the school year. We are always blown away by the talents of our students, and it’s exciting to see younger pupils appearing on stage for the first time alongside our more experienced student performers.”
