The PTFA Quiz Night saw a teams of parents, staff and friends of the school battle it out to take the plaudits.

Our quizmaster fired off a wide range of question rounds, keeping the teams well entertained either side of their jacket potato tea. There were also bonus rounds, raffles and a well-stocked bar too.

We also got a chance to see our wonderful PTFA team in their uniforms, generously sponsored by Clover HR.

The winners may have had a slightly dubious team name, but there was no doubting the general knowledge of these ex-Friary students, as they retained the trophy they won last year.

The majority of secondary schools do not even have a PTFA, and we are fortunate to have an active one that make a real difference in the lives of Friary children. There are a wide range of PTFA fund-raising events including the PTFA Quiz, the Summer Sizzler, the Comedy Night, as well as countless bars at school shows.

Elsewhere, for those parents who want to help but can’t commit the time to support events, there’s a £1 per week lottery to sign up for which gives players the opportunity to win a weekly £25,000 prize.

Our PTFA help the school to get crucial projects over the line financially at a very difficult time for school budgets.

Mark Drury, Headteacher, said: “As a school we work hard to run as efficiently as possible, but it is challenge to balance school budgets at the moment. The PTFA’s contribution this year could potentially enable us to go ahead with a covered seating area for students, improving their experience of social times and weather-proofing a main thoroughfare in school.”

The PTFA would like to thank Mark at Airway Group for the donation of prosecco, and to quizmaster Ben. The evening raised a brilliant £435 for school funds.
