As part of our latest environmentally-themed Focus Week, our students have been exploring the issue of recycling before they head into the ultimate period of mass consumption – Christmas.
Lichfield District Council came in to talk with Year 7 about ‘’What happens to your rubbish?’ and an exercise in rooting through rubbish to find out what could be recycled, where, and how, was a huge fun and sparked great conversations.
Elsewhere, students visited the Cannock Waste Management Centre to look at the amazing organisation and technology behind the management and recycling of waste
The Focus Week also involved assemblies, tutor times, and displays.
Sophie Grigg, Assistant Headteaher, said: “We are taking our responsibility to inform our children in how the can protect their planet and the future of their children’s children and have covered a wide range of themes already this year – whether it be the environmental impact of war, the choices behind electric, petrol and diesel cars, or the decisions behind second-hand and vintage items. This recent week gets the students to confront their own waste and to think how they can change their actions for the good of everyone. There is no more important time to do this than the run in to Christmas.”
