Our Year 11s were getting into the Christmas spirit this week with a lively debate on the motion, ‘Nowadays, Christmas has nothing to do with Christianity,’ as part of our Meaning of Christmas focus week.
All teams put up a good verbal fight, but the judges, Lyse Edwards (school governor), Greg Sugden (school governor) and Helena Cresswell (school librarian), decided unanimously to award the Seward House team as the winners. Well done to Lily-Marie Stansfield, Lily Wood, Isla McCaskie and Oliver Simcox.
Darwin House (Olivia Dobson, Callie Meakin, Francis Shaw and Simao Reves) finished in a very close second place, with Johnson (Ruban Atkinson, Jack Perks, Ben Short and Sam Dalton) third and Garrick (Bentley Felton, William Pemberton, Jack Mallender and Harry Plumridge) fourth.
The Most Valuable Debaters chosen by the guest judges were Oliver Simcox (Seward) and Sam Dalton (Johnson).
Assistant Headteacher, Sam Sullivan, said, “The students argued their points very passionately and there were some particularly impressive counter arguments put forward. Well done to all who took part.”
