For the second year running, students from the Friary School have participated in the Secondary MusicShare concert at Lichfield Cathedral.

MusicShare is a 20-year old, award-winning, Schools Singing Programme that works with local primary, secondary and special schools to encourage children to sing. Cathy Lamb, Director of Music at Lichfield Cathedral School who co-ordinates this event, has received national recognition at the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2025 for her leadership of MusicShare, which won the award for Best Music Learning Initiative. The event was also a celebration of the release of the Secondary Songbook, which was a key feature of the concert.

Over 40 students from The Friary School joined students from six other secondary schools from across Staffordshire and Shropshire to put on an hour long programme of music ranging from opera to folk, to Latin and pop. There really was something there for everyone’s ears and the 250 strong choir sounded superb.

Jon Hood, Head of Music, said: “Performance opportunities in the local community is always an initiative that we push within our department, and this event is too good an opportunity to turn down. To work with a nationally recognised choir leader is fantastic for our students and really helps enrich the work that we do with our students in school”.
