As part of our Remembrance Focus Week we have adorned the front of our school – and then due to the weather our reception – with an array of flags celebrating all of those countries who fought alongside Britain during the First World War and so helped to retain and build the British culture and identity we have today.
The Remembrance commemoration stem from the First World War and in that conflict Britain was supported by countries from across the world. It was their support that helped Britain to be on the victorious side and without their contribution Britain would not be the Britian we have today.
Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “There is a lot in the news about flags, so it is good to tap into this and illustrate to our students that our British flag at various points has been underpinned by the flags of many other nations who have stepped into support us, just like we have supported them. We are a school that is proud of Britain, and proud to commemorate the heroes who fought for us all, and we see it is important to educate our students to understand how today’s and their Britain has been formed.”
