The Friary School has been selected to take part in an exciting new research project aiming to help young people use social media less and improve wellbeing.

All parents in Year 9 and Year 10 have been contacted this week about their children taking part in this national pilot run by BIT and Nesta.

We will be working with the project over the coming months, alongside supporting students with appropriate and proportional use of social media and its impacts. As more details about the project are released we will keep parents informed. More information about the app being used to support the project can be found on their website here.

Richard Barnett-Richards, Deputy Headteacher, said: “The impact of mobile phones on our young people is far reaching. As the generation growing up with technology constantly at their fingertips, it is important that we educate our young people of the benefits and drawbacks of reducing unnecessary screen time and doom scrolling. We know this project will further support our drive to promote positive wellbeing across all students and build healthy relationships with technology”.
