The Friary School’s attendance continues to sit higher than national averages by some margin, due largely to the close working relationships between parents and school.
Over the past three years The Friary has utilised many different strategies to continue to keep attendance high for all students. These have included trialling national pilot schemes to support the national drive to increase school attendance since COVID 19 pandemic.
As many parents will recall The Friary supported the BITUP project – where parents received messages to highlight how many days their child has missed during the previous half term. This week the project has published its findings which supports the positive impact texting parents each half term has had on encouraging students to school.
The project is supported by the highly renowned Education Endowment Fund.
Richard Barnett-Richards, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Working to improve attendance is at the forefront of providing the best education. When students do not attend school, we see first hand the impact this has on outcomes, whether that be academically, socially or general well-being. Working together in partnership with parents has and always will be the key to ensuring students attend school. We will continue to use these strategies and many others to work with famlies and keep student attendance as high as possible”.
