Earlier this week, our school had the honour of welcoming former England Red Rose and rugby professional Claire Antcliffe. Her visit came hot on the heels of England’s triumphant World Cup win on Saturday, adding an extra buzz to her inspiring talk.

Claire shared her passion for the sport and reflected on how rugby has evolve – especially in terms of accessibility for girls and women. She highlighted the record-breaking attendance at Twickenham for the final, a powerful sign of growing support for women’s rugby.

Beyond the pitch, Claire opened students’ eyes to the wide range of careers within the rugby world. From social media and nutrition to coaching, officiating, data analysis and event management, she showed that rugby offers exciting opportunities for everyone.

Hollie Wright, PE teacher and event organiser, said: “Girls in Years 8 and 9 are already engaging with rugby in their core PE lessons, and with the momentum of England’s success, we hope to see even more girls getting involved.”

📣 Try Rugby Locally! If any girls are feeling inspired, Lichfield Rugby Club is hosting an open session this Sunday, 5th October from 1pm to 2pm for all girls. It’s a fantastic chance to give rugby a go in a fun and welcoming environment.
