With no scheduled fixture this week, Head Coach, Kim Fallows, took the opportunity to host a full-pitch training match, bringing together players from Year 8 through to Year 11. The match not only gave everyone valuable game-time but also allowed for focused practice on tactical elements, including short corners – a key area of development for the squad.

The game proved to be a fantastic success, with the younger players more than holding their own against some of the more experienced members of the Friary hockey team. Year 10 goalkeeper Noah Bowers was kept alert with several tests throughout the match, handling the pressure well and gaining important experience between the posts.

It was encouraging to see Year 10 Ted Plant making a strong comeback, showcasing solid defensive skills, including a crucial goal-line clearance. Nate Kirkwood also made his presence felt, stepping in decisively to deny Fraser Neenan a breakthrough on goal.

Among the younger players, Isaac Adams (Y8) battled tirelessly against KS4 strikers, showing grit and determination in defence. Equally impressive was Lennox Osbourne, who tracked back with real passion to support his backline whenever the opposition launched a counter-attack.

Down the wings, Osama Alashi and Sam McCaskie worked tirelessly, applying pressure to the opposition midfield and creating space. Meanwhile, Isla McCaskie – the only girl on the pitch this week – stood out for her tenacity, challenging the boys confidently and distributing several excellent balls out wide.

Goal scorers on the day were Fraser Neenan, Luke Aldridge, George O’Hare, and Anand Sihota, who coolly converted a flick to cap off the match.

Kim Fallows, Head Coach, said: “The game provided a valuable learning experience for all involved, building confidence and teamwork across the age groups. Next week, attention turns to the Year 8 girls, who face Lichfield Cathedral in their first game of the season.”
