Last week we headed to Amsterdam on our now annual Y13 trip. There were 83 of us in total; seventy-five students and eight staff.
After a solid day of travelling by coach and ferry we spent two action packed days in the city.
On day one we traversed back and forth to Anne Frank’s House, The Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark for a mid-afternoon rest and last bit of glorious summer sun, then to our evening meal and a walk around the red-light district. By the end of the day our best guess was that we had walked at least 12 miles.
Day two was comparatively relaxed. We had a 75-minute canal cruise, followed by some food and a browse around the Albert Cuyp market. Then we hot footed it across town to Amsterdam’s Royal Palace, then took selfies with the likes of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles at Madame Tussauds. Finally, there was time for some shopping, (and our students certainly knew how to shop), followed by a final evening meal. Another day of travelling and we were back at school exactly on time.
Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher, said “The logistics of the trip are pretty mind blowing but it is so worth it. The students got to see so much in such a short time, and it was an experience they’ll never forget. They were a joy to spend time with, and their behaviour was exemplary. If a school trip can ever be relaxing for staff, then this one was as close as you could get.”
