The Health and Social Care AAQ (Alternative Academic Qualification) for Year 12 has officially kicked off, and students are already diving into their studies with enthusiasm and commitment. It’s clear that, despite the inevitable challenges, the department is embracing a year of growth and development for both students and teachers alike.

Year 12 students are already hard at work preparing for their exams in May next year. Researching the various life stages and exploring the types of growth and development that occur at each stage of life. This foundational topic sets the tone for the year ahead, providing students with essential knowledge that will form the bedrock of their studies. It’s evident that students are eager to succeed, with their enthusiasm showing through big smiles in class photos.

Kim Fallows, Head of Department, acknowledged that this year was always going to come with its challenges, particularly with recent changes to BTEC qualifications and the increasing difficulty of exam content.

However, she remains optimistic:
“With the right resources and a flexible approach to revision materials, I have no doubt our students will rise to the occasion,” Kim said. “It’s about adapting to the changing landscape of education, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to thrive.”

She added:
“The positive energy in the classroom didn’t go unnoticed. Headteacher Matt Allman visited the students recently and was impressed by how well they have settled into the changes. ‘It’s fantastic to see them engaging so well with the new material’, said Matt. His encouragement has given students an extra boost of confidence, motivating them to stay focused and committed to their studies as they work towards their exams next year.”
