Hockey training at The Friary has officially returned, and it’s clear that the sport is more popular than ever!
Despite it only being the second week of the term, a large number of students have already turned out to training, showcasing their enthusiasm and commitment to both having fun and improving their skills. The energy is contagious, with players from all year groups eager to get involved; so much so, that the hockey club is now considering adding an extra training night to accommodate the growing number of participants.
Kim Fallows, team coach, couldn’t be more thrilled with the turnout: “It’s an absolute delight to see Year 7s joining in and even returning for their second week of training,” she said. “Hockey has such a welcoming vibe at Friary, and seeing new faces get excited about the sport is fantastic. I think it’s safe to say that hockey is truly a sport for everyone here.”
She added: “The enthusiasm extends beyond just the newcomers. Hockey is already a massive presence at Friary, with over 12 teams spread across all year groups, including Sixth Form. The fact that students are showing up in large numbers just a week after the start of training speaks volumes about their dedication to both enjoying the sport and pushing themselves to make it onto the school’s competitive hockey team. This rising interest is exactly what the school had hoped for, and it looks like their efforts to engage more students have paid off.”
