Working with the excellent local Police Community Support Officer team, we are flagging up their ‘Where’s Your Child Tonight ?’ project which asks parents to reflect on what their child is up to whilst they are out-and-about – whether it be at weekends, in the evenings, or during the school holidays.

The scheme is very much about making sure that we all as parents take due responsibility for our children as they are out and about in the local community. This is in the face of anti-social behaviour in the Lichfield and Burntwood district being carried out by a small minority of teenagers.

Recent discussions with parents – both with the PCSOs and school – have shown that a small minority do not know what their children are doing whilst they are out. We are blessed to live in a fantastic city and we want to ensure that everyone – young and old – have a positive experience as they go about their daily life.

Matt Allman, Headteacher said: “There is an African proverb which says ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ and whilst this is true, and schools, police, community groups, responsible adults, and more besides, all have a duty to support young people, we would say the first responsibility lies with parents. We are fortunate in our school roles to see the very best that children do each day, but outside of supervision one or two can sometimes let themselves down. We would urge all of our students’ parents to reflect on this local policing scheme as together we can all make sure our children grow up to be the sort of adults that will make our society a better place to be.”
