The Friary School’s Year 11 results brought lots of celebration as the latest cohort matched preceding years’ top-ranking outcomes with another excellent set of results.

There were wonderful performances across the board and plenty of exceptional individual stories which were rewarded by places at Sixth Form, colleges and apprenticeships.

The top grade performers achieved a string of outstanding grades and included:

Ewan Brodie – 6 x 9s, 2 x 8s, 1 x Dist*, 1 x Dist
Sophie Rogers – 6 x 9s, 3 x 8s, 1 x 7
Jonah Birchall – 3 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 1 x Dist*, 1 x Dist, 1 x 5
Cerys Thompson – 5 x 9s, 2 x 8s, 1 x Dist*, 1 x 7, 1 x Dist
Rose Piper – 4 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 1 x 7, 1 x Dist
Isabelle Webb – 4 x 9s, 2 x 8s, 1 x Dist*, 1 x Dist, 1 x 7, 1 x 6
Dan Sandles – 3 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 1 x Dist*, 2 x 6s
Archie Kennedy – 2 x 9s, 5 x 8s, 2 x Dist*, 1 x 7

These superb grades meant that there were outstanding results in a series of academic subjects with English, Maths, Science and the Humanities subjects standing out as exceptional. Equally, the vocational courses were stunning across the board, most notably in Sport, Engineering, Hospitality & Catering and Business.

Elsewhere, a huge number of students made magnificent progress from their starting points – and though this key measurement will not be acknowledged by the Department for Education due to the absence of Key Stage Two SATs results through the COVID disruption – their achievements deserves celebration:

Sophie Grigg, Assistant Headteacher, said: “There was a wonderful buzz as the results were collected – very much the result of the hard work, commitment, and one or two adventures too, which made up the journey to today. We could not be more pleased with the results we have seen and are very proud of the students and staff who grafted in lessons, in after-school boosters and in our popular Saturday Schools.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “This will be the final cohort I take through as Headteacher at the school so it was a thrill – and to be honest a relief – that they continued with the superb results which we have been fortunate to achieve over the last decade or so. The group had a disrupted start to their education journey, but have come through at the end, and we are all delighted for them and their families. We look forward to seeing many of them flourish further in our Sixth Form and wider academy trust.”
