Eight students set sail from the River Hamble in Southampton for a week of sail trailing by the RONA Sailing project.
Students participated in all aspects of running the boat from sailing to cooking and cleaning. Over the course of the week students successfully sailed across the Jurassic coast and all around the isle of white whilst taking in some spectacular views.
All students worked successfully as a team to navigate rough seas and scorching heat across the 5 days with most of them earning an Avery Award which invites them to access the tall ships race across Europe next year.
Richard Barnett-Richards, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Sailing is a fantastic opportunity to push students outside of their comfort zone. Through grit and determination many of our students learned much about themselves and found they were able to thrive in conditions never experienced before. Seeing students transition from anxious to thriving across a number of days is a true testament to developing the whole child”.
