Our Year 10 GCSE RE students visited a local mosque and met with two female Muslims about their faith and gender equality in Islamic Britain.

Following this, our students met with the Mosque’s Imam who talked about the local Muslim community and the inter-faith work they’re doing with the Christian, Sikhi and Hindu communities in Derby. The students got involved and asked lots of really thoughtful / reflective questions and represented the schools really well.

Recently, the local Muslim community supported the renovation of the mosque entry and they talked the students through the spiritual significance and symbolism of the artwork. The imam asked us to take lots of pictures to celebrate the new changes to the architecture of the mosque.

V Boulton, Head of RE, said: “The trip was hugely valuable in providing as context to our exam course and it opened our students’ eyes to a different culture and religious experience. Our school is very much committed to giving our students access to the world around them and we are very grateful for the support we received to stage this visit.”
