To coincide with Father’s Day, we celebrated our brilliant Dads, Step-Dads and all others who are positive male role models in our students’ lives.

In our Focus Week activities, students have been discussing the roles and responsibility of a father. There have been some lively discussions on whether some responsibilities are better carried out by Mums rather than Dads, and vice-versa. Students have evaluated different celebrity Dads and whether they make good role models. Students have also had the opportunity to write a card to take home as a ‘thank you’.

Tutor groups have led the assemblies this week, reflecting on the different ways fathers influence their children’s growth. In their assembly, 8D1 talked about the different roles Dads play in our lives. In addition to the jobs of chauffeur, finance-provider and chief spider-catcher, 8D1 showed how Dads provide critical cognitive, emotional and social guidance. They also entertained us with some truly terrible Dad jokes! 10G2’s assembly explored the wider impact of male role models and the positive influence they have. They also raised awareness about recognising the signs of an abuse of power, with information about how to access help and support if needed.

Sam Sullivan, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We really want to recognise the role and impact great Dads have in supporting our students, and being excellent role models. It’s a tough job, and we want to say a collective ‘thank you’ for all the good things our dads do for us.”
