As part of the ongoing Raising Aspirations Programme, a group of enthusiastic Year 8 students recently completed a five-week interactive skills workshop aimed at boosting their employability awareness and personal development.

Delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the programme was led by Schools Advisor Jayne Young, who guided students through a variety of activities designed to help them recognise their own strengths, build confidence, and better understand the world of work.

Over the course of the five weeks, students engaged in a wide range of practical team-building exercises and explored important topics including:

* Getting to know each other & understanding why people work
* Job terminology and how we talk about work
* Identifying personal skills and understanding the importance of behaviours
* Building wellbeing and confidence
* Celebrating individuality – #brand U
* Active listening and the importance of following rules
* Developing effective team working skills

Faye Bullock, Careers Coordinator, said: “The workshops provided students with a supportive environment to reflect on their goals, build interpersonal skills, and grow in self-awareness. These are key foundations for their future development.
