Over half of Year 9 made it to Normandy as part of the French trip and amidst gorgeous weather a good time was had by all.

The long coach journey there included a fiery trip form Portsmouth to Caan and after an early departure we arrived at Chateau Beaumont for dinner. It was great to be welcomed by a wonderful team that our school has built up a fantastic relationship with.

The first evening saw orientation and a plotting of the long weekend ahead.

The following morning saw students go to the local French Market at Laval, then onto shopping in a nearby hypermarket, before returning to the chateau to do outward-bounds activities including fencing, ziplining, archery, and more besides. The evening meal of coq au vin was accompanied by the chance to try snails for the first time and plenty of students dived right in.

The next day saw an early start saw us head to Mont St Michel and then St Malo where a visit to the beach was followed by free time around the town.

The highlight of the trip for every student was the chance to spend 10 mins on the coach taking 1-to-1- with Mr Allman about how thing were going at school and what needed to happen next.

Sophie Grigg, Assistant Headteacher, said; “We were thrilled so many Year 9s came along. The trip is very much about boosting confidence, marking the step into GCSE-level courses, and most importantly making memories that will stand out in the school years. The students were fantastic throughout, wonderful to be with, and we are already looking to book again for Summer 2026.”
