On Thursday we will be hitting the Met Offices definition of a heatwave in Lichfield so we will be encouraging our students to come into school wearing their PE kit rather than their school uniform.

This will initially be between Thursday 19 June and Tuesday 24 June as this is when the extreme heat is forecast – though we will keep an eye on how things develop and notify  parents on Monday if we will continue with this arrangement.

You can read about the Met Office’s definitions of a heatwave here.

Elsewhere, we will be flagging up with chairmen the precautions we all need to keep in hot weather – such as shade, sunscreen, etc.

We will also be providing extra access to cold water during break-times – and parents should ensure their child bring a fillable bottle that they can top up for free during break.

Otherwise, normal school, life applies – so ‘Bugsy Malone’ will see a hot theatre under the stage lights, A-Level exams will plough on, governors will still come in for a late evening meeting, our Duke of Edinburgh trek will take up the weekend, and teachers will still do their best with their teaching and support.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “We seek to hold a line on standards in uniform, but there also has to be a pragmatic approach to uniform in hot weather. Of course, our students will be expected to keep working, keep concentrating, and keep doing their best, just like they will have to when they enter the workplace However, it is good to make this change to make things that little bit easier.”
