Our Sixth Form team took Year 12 to the University of Birmingham for a personalised campus visit.

Students had two sessions on the application process and the benefits of university generally, whereas some of the sessions in the afternoon were more tailored to the university itself. This very much built on the sessions students attended at last week’s UCAS workshop.

A group of six undergraduates also held a Q+A for us, giving their personal experience of everything from university accommodation to societies to a typical week in the life of a medical student.

Students were also given information on the ‘Pathway to Birmingham’ programmes – some of the offers may mean a reduction in grades if the University is made their firm choice.

To end the day, we were split into three groups to tour the campus, ranging from the library, the famous clock tower and exam halls, the sports facilities, the Students’ Union and some of the accommodation areas.

Amy Jones, Head of Sixth Form, said: “This was a really informative trip which ensured that every student got a taste of university life before they make some big decisions over the next few months.”
