Our Year 12 parents were welcomed into school to talk through post-18 destinations as their children gear up for their final year with us.
The evening saw an overview of the journey ahead and then specific talks which were repeated so parents could drop in to one or all three of them.
These included a presentation on Student Finance supported by Jeff Chilton from the University of Aberystwyth and a talk by Ask Apprenticeships to map out the routes for post-18 work-based and degree apprenticeships. Also, our Head of Sixth Form, Amy Jones, also talked through the UCAS application process and made sure parents were aware of the UCAS Day their children took part in at school during the day.
Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher, said; “The university route is still a good one but the cost, the alternativities, the easy wins and the pitfalls all need exploring. Certainly, knowledge is king when it comes to making the right choices for the maximum benefit. The days of it being a 3 year rite of passage are long gone, and it is vital that the cost bring a top quality experience and education which set up the graduate for a rewarding and worthwhile career in the world of work.”
