As part of the raising aspirations programme, a representative and graduate from Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge, visited The Friary School to talk to aspiring Year 12 students and potential applicants.
Layo who graduated from University of Cambridge, work in the role of Schools Liaison Officer at Sidney Sussex College Cambridge. This role provides support to students by offering invaluable, first-hand advice and guidance to support prospective students.
Students received information regarding what they should be prioritising in their studies, to increase their chances of securing an offer. They also looked at the application process, and heard directly about Layos experience of student life, this was based on their own personal experiences of what university life is really like, at the most prestigious university collages throughout the UK. Students received best guidance for interview preparation, the best ways to make their personal statements stand out with enrichment opportunities, and how to ensure that they get the most out of university studies.
Faye Bullock, Career & Aspirations Coordinator, said: “The session was a perfect guide to inform potential aspiring students, inspiring them that this is a realistic option to them. It gave the capable students insight, encouragement and belief that students at this school can apply and achieve great things. Students will hopefully feel motivated to consider applying to an Oxbridge University when making their university choices.”
