We work hard to support all of our students in plotting forward their career route and wanted to share an example of the work that goes on to enable students to plan and facilitate their aspirations becoming a reality.

The following email was sent to a Year 12 student looking to be a vet and shows the level of work that goes through every school year.

“Great speaking with you about your aspirations into veterinary medicine. I know that you’re aware of the importance of applying yourself, are totally up for the challenge and intend on giving this your all to ensure your grades are where they need to be. Its great that you have started to go to open days and plan on more soon. You are aware of the university offerings best and worst case scenario and your options reflect this with Liverpool, Nottingham, Edinburgh Universities and Harper Keele Veterinary School, just one more to seek out and choose.

Please see below to reflect grades you intend on gaining, the one on the previous emailed below was based on the most recent data collection:

Also in September I’’ve booked in a personal statement specialist, who will review and give you personal statement feedback.

Keep going with your enrichment work experience and don’t forget to renew the application with me to continue this into the new academic year.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “It is vital that students understand that they need to do ABC in order to make their career dream a reality – nothing career-wise just lands in your lap without hard work and effort somewhere along the way. This one example of careers support is replicated hundreds of times – at different levels of the school – and illustrates how we as schools work to inspire, encourage and direct our students to their best possible outcomes. This particular student is capable, talented and has everything needed to be a top vet – it is our job to do all we can to help them get there.”

BBC Bitesize also have an easy to read article on being a vet which you can read here.
