As we plough into the Year 11 exam season our school is providing extensive support for our students as they face up their vital exams. This support comes in a range of formats:

Pre-Exam Briefings

These take place between 8.40am-9.00am before morning exams and between 12.40pm-1.55pm before afternoon exams. They are staged in the theatre and are voluntary. In these sessions subject teachers remind students key content, key priorities last-minute reminders before they go into the exam.

The sessions are very much to confirm what students already know and to fill them with confidence that they are fully prepared and on track for what is ahead of them.

Drop-Downs

As the exam season rolls through, students will find they have completed some subjects so do not need the lessons or have exams that afternoon, or the following  morning, that they wish to focus on. Consequently, we suspend the Year 11 timetable so there are lessons in subjects just before the exam.

A good example of this is that all students will have a Biology lesson during Period 3 on Tuesday 13 May as they have there GCSE Biology exam that afternoon. This means there is targeted revision work, exam skills reminders, and a chance to focus their minds on exactly where it needs to be.

After-School Boosters

After-school we will continue our usual booster sessions so students can go over key content or ask for personalised help where they face a particular barrier. The sessions are designed to go over specific work for specific exams, are well attended, and staff are happy to put in the extra time as they know it makes such a difference.

Saturday Schools

Our Saturday School continues through the exam period with specific sessions for GCSEs in Maths and English:

English Saturday School – 10 May – 9:30-11:30am
Maths Saturday School – 7 June – 9:30-11:30am

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “As always we will be going the extra mile for our students and so if students want to have every chance of doing their best then they just have to buy-in to what is on offer. It is still the case that you very much get out of the exams what you put in so regular study, revision, and targeted support make a big difference. Every child in our school an do well if they make the right choices as everything is laid out for them.”
