As part of celebrating the attendance records of students, those students with the lowest rates of absence were invited to a Bingo Rewards Event which saw students play along to win Easter themed prizes as a reward for their great attendance.
The Department for Education judges good attendance to be at 95% and as a school we see in our exam results that those students who match this benchmark statistically do far better in their final GCSE exams. This is echoed in government reports which relay that 90% of young people with attendance rates below 85% fail to achieve five or more good grades of GCSE and around one third achieve no GCSEs at all.
Richard Barnett-Richards, Deputy Headteacher, said: “There may be points in a child’s school life where they are too unwell to attend school and naturally anyone would accept that. Even so, it is also equally important to acknowledge that opportunities in life are often eased by good exam results and being in the classroom is the best way of securing this. This is why we enjoy celebrating the importance of attendance and all those students who took part – even those who did not shout ‘House’ – thoroughly enjoyed their bingo experience.”
