Last week, Johnson House came together for House Week, raising funds for St. Giles Hospice from an array of events including cake sales, timed challenges, a sponsored swim, a netball tournament, and a raffle.
Cake sales took place every day, featuring an array of homemade treats that satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. From gooey brownies to beautifully decorated cupcakes, the table was brimming with goodies. We also had a raffle, with fantastic prizes including a £200 ‘Dining out’ voucher, two Nando’s hampers and a signed netball from England’s Beth Cobden.
For those who enjoys a challenge, the “Guess the Name of the Teddy”, “socks pairing” and “duvet making” activities proved to be a hit with both pupils and teachers alike. Participants tried their luck, hoping to correctly name the cuddly bear to take it home, as well as challenging the clock to win “Queue jump” vouchers, trying to be the fastest to pair 10 pairs of socks or put a duvet on a duvet cover. The ever-popular tombola also drew crowds with its enticing array of sweets and chocolate. Each ticket purchased brought more than just a chance to win; it contributed to the meaningful cause at the heart of the event.
Adding a personal and creative touch to the week was the charming “Nominate Your Mum” postcards. This heartfelt initiative encouraged participants to write nominations celebrating their incredible mothers or mom-figures, spreading warmth and appreciation hoping to be in with a chance to take home a cupcake for their nominated mother at the end of the week.
Our most successful event came via a sponsored swim on Wednesday afternoon, where 37 pupils showcased their determination and endurance to collectively swim 22 miles (across the English Channel). Cheered on by friends and family, the swimmers did brilliantly and in response gained lots of sponsorship money. Thank you to The Friary Grange Leisure Centre for allowing us to use the pool to facilitate this event.
Through these events, Johnson House have so far raised a remarkable £2494.91 for St. Giles Hospice. The funds will go a long way in supporting the hospice’s invaluable work, providing care and comfort to those in need.
Hollie Wright, Head of House, said: “The week was not only a testament to the creativity and generosity of Johnson pupils who helped run the stalls and brought in donations to sell but also a reminder of the power of community coming together for a shared purpose from all pupils who made a donation. Congratulations to everyone involved—you’ve made a difference and created memories to treasure!”
