MusicShare is a 20-year old, award-winning, Schools Singing Programme that works with local primary, secondary and special schools to encourage children to sing. So we were absolutely delighted to be asked to take part in their Spring concert at Lichfield Cathedral.

Over 30 students from The Friary School joined students from six other secondary schools from across Staffordshire and Shropshire to put on an hour long programme of music ranging from opera to folk, to Latin and rock. There really was something there for everyone’s ears.

Each of the two hundred strong choir, sang their hearts out and filled the Cathedral with a fantastic sound. Often singing in parts and providing additional elements such as body percussion and a little dancing.

Students had committed to rehearsals in the lead up to the concert and were led on the night by the irrepressible Cathy Lamb, Director of MusicShare and also, one of our parents.
We are so proud of all of the students who represented The Friary last night and who helped to put on such a fantastic concert for a large and enthusiastic audience.

Jon Hood, Head of Music, said: “It is always a great opportunity to get involved in local music events. It enables the students a broad range of experiences and some fantastic venues to perform in. We are lucky to have such a keen group of singers in school especially when many high schools can struggle to maintain engagement with singing for pleasure. At Friary we are able to run several choirs for different age groups and tonight was a great opportunity for them to come together and sing”
