To mark national carers week and as part of our raising aspirations programme, Year 10 students have taken part in employability and mock interview workshops. The sessions involved an employability assembly to identify what is expected at an interview, first impressions and identifying skills and strengths, followed by a range of volunteering professionals from Lichfield Bridge Builders who carried out mock interviews with students.

The mock interviews are designed to ensure each student is prepared with knowledge of what employability skills are and how to conduct themselves at an interview. These sessions gave valuable experience and exposure to what interviews are really like and help build students’ confidence. We were delighted to receive high praise in relation to the students and the school from the visitors.

Student feedback included:

* “I have learnt about what kind of questions I maybe asked and feel more confident when trying to answer them”
* “I feel more confident about going into an interview in the future and what to expect”
* “Discussing my career interests has really helped me to gain more knowledge and understand more about the job I hope to do in the future and questions I could ask relating to this in an interview”
* “I found it useful because I didn’t know what to expect. The process has helped me understand how it works better”
* “The employability information caught my attention and encouraged me to prepare for the interview”

Faye Bullock Careers Coordinator said: “We are forever grateful for the work of Lichfield Bridgebuilders and the support we receive with running the employability and mock interview programme. The volunteers pass on their expertise to our students, ensuring they are all the better prepared for interviews and working life. Student enjoyed this positive exercise and feel more confident in their approach in the future due to the exposure of this experience.”
