We were fortunate to have Dave Robertson, MP for Lichfield, Burntwood and villages, visited our school to meet with students and school leaders as part of his support for our school and the young people coming through.

After taking in a student-led assembly on World Book Day and the importance of reading, Mr Robertson spent an hour talking about his role and leading a broad-ranging Q&A with a group of Year 12 Geographers and Sociologists. The Q&A covered a diverse set of topics from housing to the environment, university fees to AI, and his personal experiences in his role / with Parliament to World War Three.

Following this, Mr Robertson met with Head Girl, Emma Mackenzie, as the pair had been in contact earlier in the term following a student-led school referendum over the issue of 16 year olds being entitled to vote. Indeed, this topic was selected by Mr Robertson for the regional debating competition amongst our district’s schools later this month.

Elsewhere, Mr Robertson offered our students an opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament with him and aimed to make his school visit an annual one so that he could meet with and talk to future cohorts of students coming through.

Next, Mr Robertson met with school leaders to offer support and assistance on a wide range of issues.

Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher, said: “The students were impressed by Mr Robertson’s warmth, openness, and knowledge and passion for our area. They commented that he came across as very genuine and was extremely relatable. Certainly, his willingness to engage with our students and to bounce off their many and varied questions was impressive.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “Mr Robertson took the time to listen and talk through the challenges we as a school, as well as our fellow schools across the district, are facing and to offer ways forward. He also offered his full support on a series of projects we are planning and was keen to build a long-term relationship with the school. This was all fantastic and we know that Mr Robertson’s enthusiasm and lasting commitment will only benefit our school and the children in it.”
