Our annual Battle of the Bands saw students taking on arguably one of the greatest era’s for popular music – the 1960’s.
This year’s judging panel saw the welcome return of Lichfield Arts, as well as Hilton Rockschool, and it was their combined task to decide on the winning acts. As always, the successful groups have various opportunities to perform at other Lichfield Arts events, including the Fuse Festival.
The show opened with the staff band performing the classic “Get Back” before the stars of the show (the students) took us through the decade with hits from artists including Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and of course The Beatles. Standout performances included Isaac Can’s incredible drumming on ‘Wipeout’, Francis Shaw and Cameron Thain’s stage presence, and the vocal acrobatics of Emily White and Emily Rice.
Even so, the final winners were RR3 (Maddie and Ava Williams, Emily White, Emily Rice and Sam Thackaberry) with a brilliant performance of ‘Be My Baby’ by The Ronettes.
Jon Hood, Head of Music said, “We are always blown away by the talents of our students at this event, and this event continues to remind us of the value that these concerts have on boosting the confidence, experience and ambition.”
