This week, our Year 10 students took part in the debate competition arguing for and against the notion that, ‘AI is only going to make our world and lives better’.
This debate formed part of our Safer Internet Focus Week, which has seen tutor activities, competitions and assemblies educating students about the dangers of phishing, account cloning and other types of online scams.
The students debated enthusiastically; clearly, this is a topic about which they feel very passionate. All teams showed good preparation and commitment; however, it was the Seward House team of Lily Wood, Lily-Marie Stansfield, Kian Edwards and Oliver Simcox who were awarded First place. Hot on their heels were the team from Darwin, followed by Garrick and then Johnson.
The judges, School Librarian, Helena Cresswell, and Governors, Mona Sihota and Nina Worrall, chose Lily-Marie Stansfield and Bentley Felton as the most valuable debaters.
Sam Sullivan, Assistant Headteacher, said: “It was clear to see the skills of our Year 10 debaters coming through; they had prepared their arguments thoroughly, and were also confident to respond directly to points made by the opposing team. Well done to all!”
