Eight KS3 teams (two representing each House) took part in our second Independent Learning Quiz this week. The quiz topic tied-in to our Hong Kong Foundation Day Focus Week. Focus Weeks this year are designed around the principle of ‘who we are’ as a school community, and this week gave the opportunity for our Hong Kong students who have joined the school over the last couple of years to share their knowledge and experience of growing up in a different country and culture.

Many of our Hong Kong students were represented in the quiz teams, showing their factual knowledge of Hong Kong, including geographical knowledge of rivers and peaks, Hong Kong history and cultural influences. All teams gave their best, and the competition came down to a final tie-break between four teams, all with the same score. In the end, first place was awarded to the team from 8S1 (Annabelle Hill, Zara Tomkins and Cheryl Lee) who were the closest in their answer to this question: according to the Airmiles calculator website, what is the distance between London Heathrow Airport and Hong Kong International Airport?

In joint second place were 7J2 (Violet Holland, Joanna Jones-Gallardo and Rory Strong), 9D1 (Danielle Pontin, Freya Hogan and Hazel Cheung) and 8G2 (Kaya Louise McLaughlin, Lennox Lau and Ryder Fan). With all four Houses placed either first of joint second, it’s all to play for in the final round next term to see which House will be crowned the overall winners.
