Year 12 and Year 13 students recently had road safety assemblies, delivered by Stuart Allen, Road Safety Officer for Staffordshire County Council.
Stuart is an ex-police officer, and the delivery of his assembly, with his own knowledge and experience, is always engaging and hard hitting for students.
They learnt about the dangers of speeding, driving under the influence of drink and drugs, as well as how important it is to drive cautiously at all times. Stuart shared lots of real-life cases and shocking statistics with them, such as the fact that around a fifth of all those killed or seriously injured in car collisions involved a young driver.
As well as pushing and supporting all our students academically, these assemblies fed into our wider programme of PSHE for our students.
Amy Jones, Head of Sixth Form, said: “Many of our Y13s have already passed their driving test and lots of Y12s have started learning to drive. We all remember how we felt when we first passed our driving test, and it’s crucial our students understand the responsibility they are taking on. Keeping them safe is always our priority, and hopefully these assemblies will have really resonated with our young drivers.”
