Our annual House Debating Competition has gone through 3 rounds this term with Year 13, Year 12 and Year 11 taking their turns.
The topics have been as challenging as ever with the debates being centred around our Focus Weeks:
Year 13 – Child Poverty Day – ‘Child poverty is not acceptable in the UK…’
House Competition Points – Johnson = 82 / Darwin = 66 / Garrick = 43 / Seward = 20
Year 12 – Action Against Domestic Violence – ‘Domestic violence is accepted as the norm in the UK…’
House Competition Points – Seward = 70 / Garrick = 67 / Darwin & Johnson = 66
Year 11 – International Migrant’s Day – ‘Britain is full and inward migration has to stop…’
House Competition Points – Seward = 83 / Darwin & Johnson = 70 / Garrick = 61
The current standings with 4 rounds to go are;
1. Johnson = 218 points
2. Darwin = 202 points
3. Seward = 173 points
4. Garrick = 171 points
Sam Sullivan, Assistant Headteacher, said: “The House Debating Competition is the perfect grounding for the Schools Speaking Competition which is run regionally each year and no doubt many of these competitors will step forward to represent our school.”
