We are looking to run a two-week expedition to Costa Rica for current Year 10s-12s in July 2026 and sign ups will be called for next week. The trip builds on the success of past expeditions to Croatia, Borneo, Cambodia, and our 2025 adventure to Eswatini and South Africa.
This next adventure is being run alongside Projects Abroad. Projects Abroad are a global leader in organizing volunteer and internship placements around the world for past 30 years. They run excursions for over 5,000 participants a year, have over 200 staff worldwide and operate across 20 destinations.
The Costa Rica experience will include Conservation work in Selva Bananito, Turtle Conservation at Refugio de Vida Silvestre Laguna Urpiano, exploration of the Irazu National Park with its magical volcano, hiking in Turrialba, a visit to a Sloth Sanctuary, a Salsa Lesson, a Cooking Class, a Coffee Tour and a Bee Farm Tour. There will also be some beach time and relaxation elsewhere.
You can learn more about the trip here and view the full itinerary here.
There will be a parents’ meeting about the trip on the evening of Wednesday 11 December – details have already been sent out about this gathering. All students from Year 10-12 have seen a presentation on the trip by a Projects Abroad representative. For more details contact our trip organiser, Vicki Plested, on vplested@friaryschool.co.uk.
Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “We very much look to open up the world to our students and this Costa Rica excursion is very much the experience of a lifetime. We expect demand to be high and there are a limited number of spaces so early sign-ups will be advantageous. The project is very much run by Projects Abroad – with the school acting as a facilitator – but Friary staff will be on the trip to accompany the students, as well as a Projects Aboard specialist guide as well.”
