As part of our focus week on Action Against Domestic Violence, our Y12 students engaged in a lively debate addressing the motion: ‘Domestic violence is accepted as the norm in the UK’.

During the debate, the teams explored a variety of arguments including the representation of domestic violence in films and television, the role of social media, the impact of the pandemic, and economic factors affecting help available for victims.

School librarian, Helena Cresswell, and school governor, Mona Sihota, judged the competition. Both judges were impressed by the confidence and articulation of the students who took part.

Seward House continued their winning streak, scoring an impressive 70 points, with a team made up by Isabelle Archer, Amber Wheaver, Evan Wynne and Rhys Wynne. In fact, the competition was extremely close, with Garrick coming second with 67 points, and Johnson and Darwin tied third with 66 points.

Helena Cresswell, School Librarian, said, “We were so impressed by the debating skills that we have awarded three students with Most Valuable Debater: Matthew Allen, Isabelle Archer and Emily White. Well done to all who took part.”
