When preparing for Seward House Week, the House Council representatives were fantastic with bringing ideas together in order to make it a successful week and raising a good amount for a fantastic local charity, Midlands Air Ambulance. Their hard work helped to bring an amazing week.

Events over the week saw the return of ‘Seward Cycle’, a sponsored cycling event which we thank the leisure centre for allowing students to use their fitness suite. The goal was to cycle more than the 709.7 miles from last year. Not only did the target get beaten, but students and their families raised a phenomenal amount of money for the local charity. The students from Year 7-11 cycled an incredible 788.1 miles – a huge well done to all involved.

Another event was the Seward Raffle – two raffles with different prizes. Raffle 1 included a signed Aston Villa shirt by current Villa and England International, Morgan Rogers. Raffle 2 included a giant, 62cm tall Chocolate Santa, a McVities Chocolate hamper, and a skip the queue pass for Chicken & Chips Friday in the school canteen. Students all over the school were eager to be in the draw for the fantastic prizes.
The eventual winners though saw a clean Year 7 sweep with:
Signed Morgan Rogers shirt winner- Jack Holt (Y7)
Chocolate Santa winner- Edward Alexander-Burnell (Y7)
McVities Hamper winner- Georgian Bowers (Y7)
Skip the Queue winner- Henry Rogers (Y7)

Elsewhere, with ‘I’m a Celeb’ returning to TV screens, Mrs Jones created a few trials for 4 of our teachers, Mr Perry, Mr Rivers-Boyce, Mrs Bruss and Head of Seward, Mr Sleigh. 215 students were in attendance to see them win stars by eating super spicy food and putting their hands in mystery boxes.

The week was further supported by all the fantastic students and families who baked cakes, cookies and sweet treats for the cake sale which was, as always, a huge hit around school for them to enjoy during their busy days in school.

Other events saw the baking and decorating gingerbreads, a hot chocolate Friday, a lucky dip box and Year 7/8 football tournaments.

Last year’s final count saw Seward House beat the record amount, but this year have gone one better – raising £2,804.21 for Midlands Air Ambulance.
Jamie Sleigh, Head of House said: “As the Head of House of Seward, I always want my students to thrive in everything they do. In the classroom, outside the classroom or in any inter house competitions. This week has been one of my best in my 3 years. It was a fantastic week with students across all years and Houses getting involved in a variety of fundraising events for a fantastic cause. The Seward Cycle worked very well and saw the students passionate about beating last year’s mileage total and their families motivated them by sponsoring huge amounts. There were some great prizes won in the raffle and I am still wondering if the chocolate Santa lives on until Christmas…”
