As part of our Raising Aspirations Programme, over two days Year 12 students were joined by an ASK Apprenticeships ambassador who provided useful tips and information around good practice to build employability skills, making a positive first impression, using effective communication skills and how to perform in an interview setting. The next day was followed by Mock Interview Workshops with Lichfield Bridge Builders, where a group of professional volunteers held individual 1:1 mock interviews with the students.
Students engaged in these practices by using school, work, life experiences and achievements to help prepare them for future interviews. The interactive sessions gave students exposure and insight into the importance of employability skills to help prepare them for future interviews with university, apprenticeships and employment.
Faye Bullock, Raising Aspiration Programme Co-Ordinator, said: “Year on year this is a great event to explore new skills and it helps our students grow in confidence with the experience they gain. Excellent feedback from students has been received about the employability workshops and mock interviews and I know they’re all excited about putting their new skills into practice. The volunteers conducting the interviews have expressing how focused, aspirational and professional our students were in their interviews and that they look forward to returning to The Friary School again next year.
