The Friary U12s put in a fantastic performance at our regional hockey festival, ultimately finishing as runners-up. It was an exciting evening filled with skill, teamwork, and plenty of standout individual performances.
The star of the show was undoubtedly Harry Milsom, who bagged an impressive hat trick during the tournament. His clinical finishing proved key to Friary’s success and helped secure crucial points throughout the competition. Alongside Harry, Isaac Adams (Year 7) also found the back of the net with a well-taken goal, following some excellent 1-2 passing with Lennox Osbourne.
There was little debate when it came to choosing the Player of the Tournament. Year 7 Oscar Foy was awarded the title for his exceptional defensive work. Oscar was a rock at the back, diving to make crucial stops and preventing numerous opposition attacks from reaching the Friary goal. His bravery and commitment to the team were truly outstanding.
Kim Fallows, Team Coach, was quick to praise the team’s efforts, noting the increasing difficulty in selecting players for fixtures due to the growing interest in hockey at the Friary: “It’s fantastic to see how popular the sport is becoming. We had 62 students attend training last week, and it’s great to see so many wanting to be part of the team. The level of talent and enthusiasm is increasing all the time, and we’re thrilled to see so many students now signing up to the local hockey club too.”
Elsewhere, it was also fantastic to see Year 9 Noah Bowers and Year 8 Josh Hunt step up and take on the responsibility of umpiring at the recent hockey festival. Both showed great courage and maturity in the role, making key decisions and managing the games with confidence.
The excitement doesn’t stop here. Next week, the U16s will face off in a friendly Friary v Friary showdown, as they prepare for fixtures the following week against Lichfield Cathedral School.
